Message Man I think that is a great idea. I’ve had 6 bikes over the years, and enjoyed every one I have owned. I’ve ridden the 955 and like it, (I’m partial to Japanese and Italian bikes) but one of my co-workers owns a 955 and SHE loves it. If it is your first bike, I would consider something a bit smaller, check to see if they have a Motorcycle training course in your area and take it. It will provide a wealth of knowledge. Then after that attend the advanced course….both are well worth the money. On the topic of safety, this is one I take very seriously. Helmet, leather jacket (real riding jacket, not some shelf bomber jacket although some protection is better than none), gloves, boots, and jeans. I own a 1 piece leather riding suit I use to wear 90% of the time, then a riding jacket I wore to work. I have been down at over 80mph with full leathers on…aside from my pride being bruised, I walked away with some sore muscles. The bike slid in some grass, picked it up and rode home.

Everyone seems to have some sort of horror story about this guy and that guy. That is life the way I see it. I have seen fellow riders fall, crash, and be killed. I have been with guys on the side of the road as they die waiting for EMS to come. Yes it happens everyday, yes it could happen to me, yes it could happen to you. I choose not to live in fear and enjoy the freedom a motorcycle provides me. There is nothing that says you could get into your Z and have a head-on with a Semi. Nobody knows. That is a chance we take. I did the same thing you did for several years….motorcycle on most days to and from work, and the Z when the weather was cold or I had other errands to run. It made total sense to me. Fuel would cost about 10-20 per week (200-500 miles per week) and insurance was $170 a YEAR. Not bad. N E way, these are just my .02.

Regards

Walter
